Fighting Al Qaeda - Yemen

Following yet another failed airline bomb attack originating from Yemen, the country is once again in the spotlight. Question is, is anyone tackling the rising terror threat?

The battle between Yemeni authorities and their terrorists is hardening. As Al-Qaeda membership widens in the impoverished country, President Ali Abdullah Saleh states, "Young people become convinced to join, believing they are following a religious path". Now it is up to counter-terrorism forces in Yemen; "We are fighting for our lives". But there are many questions about the effectiveness of the Yemeni authority's tactics.

Al Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula (AQAP) also uses the name Ansar al-Sharia, or the Army of Islamic Law, in its battle against government forces.
