VAUGHAN, ON — The Under 12 Boys opened the weekend's Ontario Cup Finals under a sunny blue sky and a pleasant 23 degrees Celcius at the Ontario Soccer Centre in Vaughan.

Ajax Madrid faced the Brampton Blast and Brampton did not wait long to take control of the match, taking the lead in the 3rd minute through #18 Daniel Golding who outran the Ajax defence for a breakaway and finished cleanly to put the Blast on the scoreboard.

Brampton kept up the pressure on Ajax for the first half, while defending well to limit any great chances on their goal. They were able to extend their lead in the 35th minute, just before the half, when #12 Joel Salanke followed up the counter-attack to poke the ball in from a scramble in front of the Ajax goal. The score at halftime stood 2-0 in favour of Brampton.

The second half began with Ajax pressuring for a goal, knowing they were running out of time.

They were rewarded for their efforts in the 45th minute when #9 Tre Skene made an excellent run down the right side and put a great ball through to #17 Reshaun Walkes, who finished with his right foot into the bottom left corner.

Madrid showed great determination and kept up their attacks in a see-saw battle which finally earned them the equalizer in the 56th minute when #16 Isaiah Prentice-Whyte met an excellent corner-kick with a powerful header.

Neither team was able to find the back of the net before the end of regulation time and the 4 minutes of added time, so the final was determined by kicks from the penalty mark.

The teams stayed even until the end with the score still tied after five shots each.

In the end, It was goalkeeper Devin Smith who made the clinching save and the Ajax Madrid were crowned Ontario Cup Champions.
