  • Well the Atheists can't have it both ways. One minute they are claiming the book of Deuteronomy was not really "discovered" by Josiah, but was made up around that time. The next minute they are claiming the the name "Asherah" is hidden in Deuteronomy. You can't "make up" a monotheistic book of law *and* hide "Asherah" in there.

  • @Flamencoista FYI, not everyone who questions the Bible is an atheist... I'm not. The theory is that the Deuteronomy *in its last form* was edited ("made up" as you say) by Josiah or rather under his command. He used the book for his politics. But of course the book wasn't made from scratch!! Ancient Israelites had many stories about their people and their god(s) before that!! Simply Deuteronomy is based on old stories (previous copies) but they were modified as Josiah saw fit.

  • is ashara related to Asher? Asher is in the bible as a pagan demon goddess of the canaanites. The Israelites lived in the same place of many other pagan people. the Philistines and Canaanites where there before the israelites. The bible said the israelites regularly worshiped other gods committing idolerty, adoletry.

  • @sthnwatch Do you believe in 'objective truth'?

  • @gamesbok And so I agree, "wishful thinking" won't lead to understanding. It will generally lead to deception, delusion & then disappointment.

  • @gamesbok But the desire to understand will lead to it. And so what's the difference btwn desire & wishful thinking? The difference is that desire is a before-hand aspect & is fairly simple. Wishing is part of desire but "wishful thinking", as such, is delusion or deception perpetrated on oneself & only found out afterwards. "Wishful thinking is very complex too.

  • @sthnwatch No, if it's not falsifiable then it isn't a proposition. It's a way of establishing if you're asking a real question. Chech your heart by all means, but wishful thinking will not lead to understanding.

  • @gamesbok Y'know Popper's concept is kind of like being found guilty before being proven & having to prove innocence. Like why can't it just be felt in our heart as to whether it's true or false? Why? Because we can be deceived! So we should check if it's falsifiable but balance our judgement by cross-referencing/double-checking with our hearts. It's good to check if it's falsifiable but our hearts must overrule any systematic checks. All systems fail at some point.

  • @gamesbok Well I agree with you there, I find most religious people to be dishonest hypocrites. I find that most honest people are true to each other & not afraid of facing it & don't go to church very often at all either! A bit like you. God bless you, stay true.
