  • @jonwesleybarnhill That is annoying isn't it.

Listen there is nothing wrong with earning a living for ones family if that is through music then so be it! All I am getting at is we are meant to be Children of the Living God!

The point I am making is if we are to be singing songs like I surrender all, we have to mean it or basically we are lying and one of the commandments is not to lie (or bear false witness). It irratates me when people sing these songs just for profit and not for ministry!

  • @allnjms (I have a great reply ready with Bible verses and EVERYTHING! It is too big! LOL)

I just think that Jesus, who IS the WORD taught us to be careful how we look at others (Matthew 7:2, 12:33). And if Israel Houghton keeps the money he makes for his work, why is that wrong. Jesus also said, "the labourer is worthy of his hire." (Luke 10:7b, KJV) I am a Minister of Music; is it wrong that I cash my paycheck and use it to feed my family? I'm just saying...

  • @ShortieeIvy489 - It is indeed wonderful to be able to sing this song with all our hearts, I do love the Hymn.

I find it hard to sing myself as, as Tozer used to say we don't tell lies we sing them. It is easy to sing a song but getting down on our knees and telling God we surrender all is another matter!

This means we Surrender our material things, time, thoughts, actions and sometimes family! whatever God will tell yuo to Surender, we must!

  • @TheSkunker Hello Sir, I don't give 100% percent of my income to the church, 40% maybe but that is not the issue, I don't go around making albums off other peoples hymns, and I certainly don't go around singing I surrender all! In the NT the apostles and followers of Christ, literally gave up everything to serve Jesus. That is what I surrender all means, I surrender all things, time, thoughts etc! Hypocrite - yes I am because the Bible says to pray without ceasing and I don't. Do you?

  • @jonwesleybarnhill Hello Jon

I am sorry If I have upset you in any way.

To answer your question, I reached this conclusion by listening to the gentleman sing.

I am sure he is a very nice person and I don't doubt that, but the Word of God says that the Word is quick and powerful and sharped than any two edged sword... discerning the thoughts and intents of the heart.

If you were totally immersed in the owrd of God, ie reading it day and night and also prayer, then you would see the intentions

  • @allnjms Ouch. Do you know the singer personally to make such a claim, or is this just what you gather from hearing him sing? What a dangerous thing to judge a man's heart; I thought that was reserved for God alone?

  • @allnjms Wow... who are you to say what Mr. Houghton's intentions are for singing this? Have you ever thought maybe he wanted to sing a beautiful song that brought glory to God? And, by the way, I SERIOUSLY doubt that you give 100% of your income to the church or to charity. I'm sorry, but you sound like a very hypocritical and judgmental person.

  • It's indeed a beautiful Hymn and neccesary for all Christians to sing daily, however the guy singing this is full of flesh and has not surrendered all to Jesus. Has he surrendered the royalties he gets from singing this Hymn.

You can tell He is singing it toi further His career and not to further the cross of Christ!

Not intending to rant but the Lord loves a humble and contrite heart not a heart full of flesh and pride!
