Derelict RAF Stenigot.

Stenigot was used a World War 2 radar station as part of the Chain Home radar network.
It provided long range early warnings of raids from Luftflotte V (German Air Fleet) plus Luftflotte II on approaches to Sheffield and Nottingham plus the central midlands.
After the war it carried on being used as part of the Home Chain network.
In 1959 it was upgraded to a communications relay site was part of the ACE High programme, adding four tropospheric scatter dishes.
Decomissioned in the 1980s most of it had been demolished by 1996.
2 buildings remain, one by the track leading to the dishes which is fenced off and the other next to the dishes. The dishes themselves also remain.

  • I too have visited this site, awsome atmosphere. Thanks for posting it on here.....

  • Great photos, thanks! Would love to see the site in person some day. I have vivid memories as a kid back in the early 80s when we drove up Detling Hill near Maidstone in Kent where we lived, you could see the Ace High station at Coldblow lane, and it absolutely fascinated me. Only found out its real purpose a couple of years ago on the internet.

  • Nice shots there, good work :)
