A short video of my '92 Jaguar XJ6 where I start her up, have a quick look at the engine bay and sample the music that is the 3.2 straight six. Enjoy!

  • Good lord - that's a LOT of warning lights! lol Sexy Jag though, good luck with her.

  • @quirpco I remember it feeling like a lottery when they all illuminated on ignition - how many would stay on when you started the car? Most I had was 4 warning lights on at once - low coolant (broken sensor, coolant was fine), blown bulb (dodgy brake light), low brake fluid (another unknown sensor fault) and transmission failure (my favourite, the gearbox was the best part of the car...)

  • I have got a very good hint for you to keeping the nice old Engine in good shape with todays ultra dry eco fuels: Use 1:100 API TC two stroke oil / fuel mix as regular driving fuel, that keeps the old fuel-system gaskets, rubber parts, alloy parts etc... and cast iron metal surfaces of those vintage engines in excellent shape...and it also lubricates the valves and upper piston regions. Most Porsche vintage owners in Germany do so :) Also keeps carbs and tank clean and rustfree

  • @Klottelitsch thanks for that - I just stick to redex and it seems to do the trick!

  • my auntie has a '93 sovereign, cream leather. Runs great but its starting to rust. That straight 6 makes a beautiful noise, it almost roars!

  • @thefatmantalks ah was it the LWB? Last Sept I drove an 88 daimler sovereign half way across Europe with family and it didn't skip a beat - brakes got a bit too relaxed at the top of the Stelvio Pass but it guess it does weigh 2+ tonnes!

Rust is a real problem with them though...especially round the arches.

  • @DelBoy170190 haha nice :p straight 6 diesels are much smoother than v6's - Amals beemer's 3 litre is far smoother than the merc 3 litre v6...buuut, i'd do petrol over diesel anyday :D

  • An idle sound not entirely unlike the 9-litre straight 6, 320BHP D9C diesel engine found in the Volvo B9TL with Wright Eclipse Gemini bodywork :P.

  • @nodealertouchesmyJag nah it needed an MOT (UK road-worthiness test, bit like a smog test...) and it was beyond economical repair: rust was taking over and the suspension was shot to hell...not great! Glad you got the switch sorted - that particular generation of car is really easy to work on...unlike my current car - 98 XJ8 - where if summat electrical goes, you've had it! I'll upload a vid of the newer car :D

  • Why did you sell the car? Too much electrical problem? I just replaced the oil pressure switch and the needle is now at middle of the gauge. It was always at 3 and no movement except when I turned off the car but now it is where it's suppose to be. Yeah the color is great, I love it!

    Cheers mate!
