Stuart Pearce has seen his England Under-21 squad lose four players ahead of their double-header against Azerbaijan and Israel during the next eight days.
With Phil Jones called into Fabio Capello's senior squad, the group has dropped to 23 in number following a further three pull-outs through injury.
Manchester United's Danny Welbeck limped out of his side's 8-2 victory over Arsenal on Sunday. The Gunners were meanwhile missing their midfielder Emmanuel Frimpong, who has also withdrawn from the Under-21s through injury. Liverpool's Martin Kelly also came off during the Reds' 3-1 win over Bolton on Saturday and has not joined up.
The Young Lions met up on Monday afternoon ahead of their game against the Azeri at Watford this Thursday (1 September, 7.30pm BST), which is a crucial Group 8 qualifier for the 2013 UEFA European Championship.
They then face Israel in a friendly at Barnsley four days later (Monday 5 September, 7pm BST) as Pearce continues to blend his squad for a busy autumn with four more qualifiers coming up in October and November.
