If you know your kid can't swim then put a life jacket on them or at least water wings, they even make swimsuits now with floaties inside the suit so it keeps kids above water. My son is 3yrs old and can't swim so unless I'm holding him or another adult is holding him he wears a life jacket in our backyard pool.(and the pool is only about 4.5ft deep so I can full stand up in the pool and not have water anywhere near my face as can the other adults that take my son swimming.)
@avonee1976 these things will help but not prevent drowning.
1)learn CPR
2)learn to swim
3)swim near lifeguards or competent swimmers
4)never swim alone
5)reconize the signs of drowning(or swim near lifeguards who do)
Mother's should never be more than an arms length from a child who can't swim. It only take 20seconds for a child to stop struggling....35seconds and they are unconscious...3min and you have brain damage.
As a former lifeguard I would say that the lesson learne here is not only that all people who care for children should learn CPR, but that kids need to be taught to swim from a very early age from a qualified instructor. Both of these tactics could definitely save lives.
It's that time of year again. I am spreading the video around, in hope it saves at least one child. Remember in a split second and with 4 adults in arms reach this happened. Thank GOD for our training in CPR and all his answered prayers that day, little Kia is alive to share his story. Everyone please take pool safety serious.
That's really terrible. I hope this helps to educate parents and children about water safety. It only takes a second for an accident to occur. Please stay encouraged and keep spreading the message.
Thanks for posting this video. I am a pool manager looking for real stories like this to show the parents in our neighborhood. I cannot believe how many parents in the neighborhood let their kids come to the pool unsupervised. Thanks again.
As one of the parents who helped with these videos, I pray that everyone who watches learns from us. I thank God for our friends, The Hopson family, who saved our son and the opportunity to have a second chance. This chance is not taken lightly and we know with the Lord's help these stories may help to prevent other injuries and/or deaths. As we may have been fortunate, the event was traumatic and will be an everlasting reminder of how quickly a drowning can occur.
Memorial Day 2005 a Day I will never forget and a day I will alway share with everyone the Present's of GOD'S Love we all encountered that day. I thank GOD everyday that we have the opportunity to share with others our testimony to possibly help others.
With Faith Love and Grace we are all GOD'S Beautiful Family.

Back yard pools are death traps in my opinion.
