"Teaching the world to Punta"
I first tuned into punta rock in the garage studio of Caye Records in Inglewood, near Los Angeles. Belizean, owner Patrick Barrow (who plays rhythm guitar for the Babylon Warriors, a reggae group) flipped the switch on a reel-to-reel tapedeck and hit me with some Palacio. Clearly Caribbean, somewhat African, and totally frenetic with tropical dance fever. Punta rock is the kind of electrified yet traditional Third World rhythm that's feeding the world-beat market.

The true heroes behind our music are really those first Garifuna fighters who in 18th. Century on the island of Yurume, St. Vincent, stood up against slavery, colonization, and cultural domination.
--- Andy Palacio
Those were the passionate words that a spiritually uplifted Andy Palacio uttered at the World Music Expo, WOMEX, in reception of the internationally acclaimed music prize in Spain in October 2007. He had finally culiminated his cultural and musical crusade for the Garifuna people, and laid the seal to the mission to which he was call.

I thought this was going to be a musical video of Andy. P but was disappointed. In any event, Andy P was a great cultural ambassador for all of Belize and those in the diaspora.
