shadowlily21, what do you know about blues to be makin' judgements like this? Lou Reed does it perfectly, and I don't think ANYONE in blues community would bash his style. Hmmm, think I'll put it out there and ask.

@jhowellkc it's likely a volume pedal swelling up the volume with each note.. some players manipulate the vol control on the guitar to do it.

i fall down on my knees!

@jhowellkc Well, hate to be disagreeable, but I sense these are knuckle sounds.

Great version of a song written by Blind Lemon Jefferson, who used to sing on the streets of the Deep Ellum section of Dallas.

well - sounds good to me. Pretty raw which is the way the song should be sung and gives me new respect for Reed. I like the way he draws it out - no hurry - which is old school. Tight band who followed him well and they are having fun. Doesn't get much better than that.

Love this song, and I generally like Lou, but to me, this one sounds like he's very out of time - or he's never heard the song and is just reading the lyrics for the first time!

@maryannemclaurin it is a mediocre performance (not good or bad). if you think this is "perfect" blues, then you haven't heard much good blues in your lifetime.

How is Lou making the ebow-ish sounds on this song? I didn't notice an ebow. Great, great performance!

hate to barge in but music is about soul and feeling which this has more of under his small fingernail than a legion of dodgy acts (kings of leon and such) i would however put Jack White in the same spiritual league if at the bottom with Reed at the top
