Since 1950, some 4,5 Million people have immigrated to Germany - most of them from Russia's ethnic German community. Hundreds of thousands of them settled here after German re-unification. But some chose to stay in Russia or ultimately returned there. During the Second World War, many ethnic Germans were forceably settled in the Siberian city of Omsk. We report on the everyday life of the few who remain there.

  • Great video. Half of my ancestors were Germans from Russia. I am glad to hear that some of our people are still living there! :)

  • Home is home, I guess that's universal.

  • they seemed to be very well integrated.

  • @thegreendestiny What the fuck are you talking about? Germany of 18th century wasnt exactly "consumerist" place.

  • @BenTennison16 The ancestors of the Volga Germans left the West for a good reason, one of which is to reject the life of consumerism for a simple life. They should be proud of it.

  • @kensai7gr your saying poor, well maybe, for our standards, but they seemed happy. You see having a big house and lots TVs , laptops and money does not necessarily make you happy. these follks may live in siberia but they're probably happier than many of us here in the west.

  • there are a bunch of these towns or villages in eastern europe. The news knows bettter than u do, did u hear them talk about azerbaijan? NO

  • There is an alexandrovka in Ukraine as well, about an hour outside of Odessa. This video is very interesting, it could have been my family had we not left before exile. Any of these people could probably be distant relatives...wish them the best.
