I heated the board to approx 110c from the bottom heat, then turned on the top heat on the 852A++ to 150c and 57 air pressure for about 1-2 mins, then pop it off using the heatsink clamp. My homemade support jig bolt is the perfect height and I place the clamp inbetween the gpu and the heatspreader and pop it off. If it doesn't come off easily, wait 30 seconds for more heat and try it again. I never have to go higher than 150c though for the hot air.

@texasprankcall My heat plate came off and I have been using AS-5 on the GPU ever since and I have noticed no difference in the amount of time that it takes to get the YLOD again. Usually about a month... Maybe a little longer... I believe the only long term fix for the YLOD is to have the GPU reballed...

@tennwhitetrash the reason why is because if you are true repair person you know that you need to replace the thermal on the die it makes for a longer fix and stops the ps3 from artifacting in the furture

@tennwhitetrash
And using an extra 25cents of thermal compound for a better ps3 fix is wrong why again?

Not sure why someone would want to do this. just means that you will have to use more thermal compound when fixing your YLOD PS3...
