The US needs Israel because without Israel as an ally Israel would use nuclear weapons against the Arab oil fields the next time the country was in any danger (the next time being the first time) of being overrun and destroyed, thereby destroying the US economy in one fell swoop. Either way, whether you wish to believe Israel gets 3 billion or 12 billion is irrelevant. In my opinion even a singly penny in aid to Israel is too much.
