he didnt say he read 20 newspapers a day, and as a democrat, i respect the troops, i think they're wonderfully brave and partriotic. I want them to come home, or at least fight in Afganistan, where the real fight is, against the taliban and Al Queda. There was NO reason to invade Iraq and theres no reason to keep our troops there, its not fair to use their courage and devotion to our country to start another war

He is CLEARLY saying since they couldn't get another job they joined up. Im sure a lot joined up because they fucked around in school just as im sure a lot joined up to serve. The point is either way THEY KNOW that joining the MILITARY service you have a chance at serving in a war.

They should have let Richard finish what he was trying to say toward the end. I agree with Richard he was not saying anything wrong towards the troops serving but it is true 90% of the men & women go into the service because they can't find a job or don't have the money for collage & they do volunteer for those reasons, & I know they pray not to go over to fight in any of those sandboxes, but when your 18-22 & there's no jobs or money for college what else is there for them to do in their mind

Complete gibberish what that woman is saying. When I was in Iraq, every single person around me, from top to bottom, couldn't wait to get the hell out of there. Any nit-wit could understand how whenever someone from the government or media comes along, we'd give them the same old garbage about honor and doing good and whatnot. Soldiers may not have anything to do with the politics of the war. But that makes them the best judgement of war. Their caught in the middle. They see what really happens. And for an Actor to ACT like he knows more when he doesn't, is disgraceful. Im against war. But id like to see Mr.Belzer dress in full battle armor and perform the same things are soldiers do before he decides to become judge. He needs to know what fear really feels like. Not from behind a desk, but from behind an M-16.

Well, I can't quite remember if this was referring to Afghanistan or Iraq, but I once heard a military service man call up during a radio discussion regarding people's debate over whether the troops should be over there (and this was around 2001-2003 somewhere) and not only did he say that people SHOULD discuss it so that we're sure...but he also said that sometimes, when HE was over there the soldiers would be together and one would say, "Why are we here?" because they weren't even always sure

He's right, the vast majority of the enlisted men in Iraq and Afghanistan don't have the analytical capabilities or historical knowledge to understand the large-scale causes of those wars. Being on the ground fighting it gives you a certain perspective that others lack, but it isn't one that we should consider being the end-all opinion of the direction an entire country takes in said war.

Belittling the soldiers is unacceptable. Disagreeing about the war is one thing, talking shit about the men and women who serve is hitting below the belt. Saying that they joined the military because they couldn't find employment or get into college is complete horse shit. There were quite a few people that I graduated high school with (honor students) that joined up. Bill Maher is the most arrogant liberal out there. He really gives Democrats a bad name.
