In this disturbing scene from A DOUBLE LIFE (1947), stage actor Anthony John (Ronald Colman in an Oscar-winning performance) feels his mind beginning to crumble at the opening night party of William Shakespeare's "Othello" in New York. Featuring an Oscar-winning music score by the great Miklós Rózsa!

  • The film was originally offered to Laurence Olivier who turned it down. Ironic, as Colman had declined the role of suspected murderer Maximilian de Winter in Alfred Hitchcock's "Rebecca" (1940) which Olivier readily took on. Glad the return favour garnered Ronald Colman an Oscar win. R.C. didn't play many film roles in the 1940s (after much work in the 1920s and 30s as a matinee idol), but in middle age he took on lots of radio work, putting his mellifluous voice to good use.

  • cary grant turned down this role because he thought it was not good for his image.
