A demonstration of a kinematic machine, used to teach fundamentals of mechanical engineering. A selection of kinematic machines from the collection of The Ohio State University's Department of Mechanical Engineering are included in the exhibition Objects of Wonder from The Ohio State University, on view September 26, 2008 - January 11, 2009

The Columbus Museum of Art and The Ohio State University have shared a passion for knowledge and collecting for more than one hundred and thirty years. Objects of Wonder from The Ohio State University takes its cue from the age-old cabinet of curiosities, which displayed an astonishing range of objects, from the scientific to the artistic. The exhibition brings to light the surprising treasures held in the University's vast collections, from matchboxes to Marilyn, pigeons to paintings, and cartoons to costumes. Every artifact in this show tells a unique story. Experienced together, these objects inspire unexpected connections. Bring your curiosity as you discover and explore the wonders of OSU at CMA.

  • Cus in America you fucking can

  • It's kinda like a version of a Geneva Mechanism. They're used in film projectors for moving the film pausing moving pausing but using a continuous motor.

  • same thing an electric airsoft gun use's.. gears pull back the piston till it hit a flat spot, the sprin forces the piston forward, it compress's air.. the air then forces a 6mm plastic BB down a barrel..

about the only use I've ever seen, other then a locking ratchet, or fishing reel... :-o

  • Why am I not writing my essay?

  • يا بثرك

  • Is Ohio State University a special needs school? Is it any wonder why a lot of engineers are from different countries.

  • Read the goddamn description, people.

  • pmsl i was mesmerized till the video stopped :L

  • @YTBYlover It's not actually the teeth that start the 2nd gear turning again though, it's the flat lever thing that extends off of it (which looks much sturdier and possibly replacable)

  • haha pingpong.
