the frame story is about the persian king shahryar with his persian wife sherzade and they have brothers and sisters too wich is persian of course, but the reason why its called arabian nights is because she tells story about arabian for him every night,and the new movie about this will come april 2011 and it will be the same story

its all set in the middle east, they dont have an author exactly, but many translators. im actually ready the novel right now :) its about 10 times longer and much more intertwined than what the movie lets on, also a bit of a strange read but if you like the stories you should try reading it
and yes alladin is for some reason chinese but hey its a movie and made it rather interesting
