A coonass is a stupid, ignorant person. Cajuns call each other that just like black people call each other "nigger". But they dont take kindle to outsiders using the term.

@brohmanski according to a couple louisiana friends of mine, it's a mispronunciation of a french/cajun french term for backwater yokels.

I have known and loved the louisiana people for many years. Actually married to one 20 yrs...only recently the term Coon-Ass was explained to me....early cajun people were fond of wearing coon-skin hats. people unfamiliar with cajun culture would say Hey You Know You have a Coons Ass on your head ? Huh ?
This was told to me in all sincerity as truth -- Not a Joke....and makes perfect sense...

what's a "Coon-Ass"? is it someone from the Bayou? someone that catches Crawfish? please explain, i'd love to know...thanks.

Joe explains in our original video, but YouTube pulled the audio because of their copyright policy. :-| He described "Coon Ass" as the crawfish country equivalent of Hillbilly, basically a local yokel from the deep south. Thanks for asking!
