  • What does he use to colour?

  • Prismacolor Art Stixx

  • What kind of marker is that?

  • Dixon Markette

  • Not at all, Ahksel63. I agree that Hirschfeld was one of the greatest. One thing you are misunderstanding about his work is that he chose simplicity, but most of the time his exaggeration was just as extreme. If you check my blog and website you will see that I don't merely subscribe to this 'grotesquery' that you speak of. I admire portraits, caricature, rendering, cartooning and other art. I work in many styles, however my book is specifically about the extreme side, hence the video.

  • So he refused to write her name on the drawing they are paying for?

    What a douche.

  • All that "shaky cam" and rapid-fire cuts makes your video unwatchable, Joe. I enjoyed the book but, unlike what was hinted at, there wasn't much about technique or materials. Still, I wouldn't want you pissed at me. The pen would be

    mightier here.

  • I'm a total noob at Kaman's. I love cartooning but doing caricatures is like a whole new world. I've been drawing and animating pretty much my whole life, but the moment I try to make a little kid look like this my right hand turns to glue. I'm totally devoid of balls-- That's why seeing these vidoes are so goddamn empowering.

  • woehahaha :D poor girl xD

  • @Eszlee1 Wow, I didn't know that. Unfortunately, I can completely see that happening. They were EXTREMELY strong smelling markers that kicked up even outdoors in a lot of open space. It's the only real flaw that they had other than size. But yeah, that is admittedly, a pretty damn good upside to Dixon Markettes.

  • @darknight068: yeah.. they were really good. But I heard a caricature guy from the old NCN ('National Caricature Network' now called, ISCA nternational Society of Caricature Artists) got cancer from working with the Design Markers for so long. Time took a tole on him & all that potent smell caused him to catch that disease... unfortunately. :-/ It was the chemicals they used inside of it... which are not in the Markettes.. thankfully. :-)

  • @Eszlee1 Except, there not as good on a whole, and their manufacturing has just progressively gotten worse. It's still completely functional, but they leave a bit to be desired.

If you ask me, I wish Design markers were still made. Yeah, they had more of a kick in the smell department, but they also produced much better lines on average fresh from the pack.

  • bad ass, i want to be paid to make fun of people too
