WOLFGANG AMADEUS MOZART (1756-1791)

Serenade for strings in G major "Eine kleine nachtmusik" [A little night music] K525

2. Romance: Andante

Performed by the English Concert
Directed by Andrew Manze

*Mozart listed this work as having five movements in his own catalogue of his works ("Allegro - Minuet and Trio - Romance, Minuet and Trio and Finale"). The second movement in his listing, a minuet and trio, was long thought lost and no one knows if it was Mozart or someone else who removed it. Musicologist Alfred Einstein has suggested, however, that a minuet in Piano Sonata in B-flat, K.498a, is the missing movement. It's likely we will never know for sure.

  • When my mother was dying a painful cancer death she would cry upon hearing Mozart's music and proclaim that his melodies blocked the pain.

January 27th should be a world holiday to celebrate the birth of this gifted composer.

  • this is my favorite musical piece,So beautiful and slow yet pacing

  • @patnumbersix Unfortunately, I live in Houston, Texas. So that would be kind of a long way for me to travel for a concert. ;-)

  • @Garpinator You can here this performed exactly so at Finchcocks, a country house near Goudhurst, England where they have a wonderful collection of period instruments. I think they have a website. patnumbersix

  • @TerryCPiano wow, dude, your an idiot

  • That section from 3:20 to 4:00 ( C minor, I think) is literally TERRIFYING...

  • Would you happen to have a historically informed performance of Piano Sonata 11? I would love to hear "Rondo alla turca" performed on a vintage pianoforte with a turkish stop, the way it was intended to be played.
