First Impressions: Chihayafuru | ちはやふる

My first impressions on the 2011 anime series Chihayafuru (ちはやふる). The series is based on the manga series written and illustrated by Yuki Suetsugu and serialised in Be Love and published by Kodansha.

This show looks really interesting. I for one don't mind if they focus on the game because just like Hikaru no Go, I had no clue what Go was and still don't know how to play it but the way they focus on the game made it interesting. I just hope that if this show goes into that direction they would make the game interesting to watch and learn about. I, however am more interested in the trio's relationship to each other seeing how they all were very close once.

@darkkodiak001 I really want to learn more about the relationship behind the characters as well. I feel that the show might be a little underrated considering that it also focuses on a foreign card game, but hopefully people will watch it regardless--I know I will.

@isugoiDOTcom thanks for the review. it made me check out this anime. i love it. character design is top notch, the love triangle and even the game is pretty interesting. and i like how the protagonist is different from the usual shojo archetype

First and foremost: you sir are the most unbiased commentator I have ever watched.

Either way-I totally agree with you. Great show: Episode 17 8D Still lovin' it. My only concern, which I'm surprised you didn't talk about is the plot line and how predictable it is. Not with karuta, but with the three friends: Chihaya, Taichi and Arata. That was something that I picked up immediately, but the execution of the plot in line with karuta as the motif really got me hooked.

funny thing is that this is just a card game at home, but we call this a sport at competition. they say this is a combative sport on tatami.
