Barcelona is an album recorded by Freddie Mercury, the front-man of the popular British rock band Queen, and operatic soprano Montserrat Caballé. The album was recorded in 1987 and 1988, and released in 1988. It is the final solo album recorded by Mercury, who died of AIDS on November 24, 1991.

After Barcelona was selected to be the next Olympic city, Freddie was approached to write a song as a theme for the forthcoming games. The idea was to create a duet with Montserrat, as she is from the city. Freddie had been a long standing admirer of Montserrat and she in turn grew to respect his talens very highly. They soon decided to work on an album together, with Mercury and Mike Moran taking the creative lead as songwriters. Freddie and Mike made and sent her tapes of the music with Freddie singing in falsetto as a lead vocal for Montserrats parts. As they rarely had an opeing in their schedule to meet, her parts were recorded at another location.

  • Such a collaboration and the first time Freddie singing a duet wonderful that he had this opportunity. It's such a shame that he wasn't here to sing the song at the actual opening of the games.

  • If I have the date right this was recorded on my birthday and I am huge Freddie fan how cool!

  • how can anyone dislike this? three dislikes? why??? It is absolutely beautiful.

  • wonderlul song !

  • just perfec.... no words!

  • What a CRYIN' SHAME he got out of control !! I wouldnt wish what he went thru on him or my worst enemy !!

  • was für eine grandiose nummer

es gibt wohl nur selten einen pop rock sänger, der neben einer Montserrat Cabellé nicht blass wirkt

  • THE BEST FOREVER!!!

  • Acho que o Freddie pensava: "não vejo a hora de tirar estes sapatos e por meus tennis"

I think Freddie was thinking, "I can not wait to take these shoes and put my tennis"

  • So much talent in one of the most beautiful and emotional songs ever written... I miss Freddie -3
