First of all afl field is twice as long as nfl field. It's significant area is due to the large amounts the players run and the space needed when kicking. Wouldn't say it's tougher then rugby but definitely requires more skill then both rugby and nfl. Just mastering kicking takes years of development. U could pick up rugby ball and pass it no problem. These players are more athletic than NFL and NHL players. They have to be to keep up with the pace of the game. Some midfielders run up to 25km in one game. I'm pretty sure that's more than NFL or NHL.

@gusbus1223 Also the first american football game was far from the one you play today such as no forward pass or padding. We're talking about the sports now, not the distant cousin of 150+ years ago. But im not here to argue about that. Im just disagreeing with the points in your argument i mean what does the shape of the field matter in an discussion about how manly or piss weak a sport is.
