Sir John Beddington, scientific adviser to the British government, was refreshingly blunt in a "global megatrends" session at the Planet Under Pressure meeting in London. He stated that there was no clear path on addressing the long-term problem of greenhouse-driven warming, but noted that short-term trajectories for population and consumption were clear -- and plenty of actions now could address them as a way of bolstering resilience and blunting impacts of change.
