My Dragon Eel (Enchelycore Pardalis) being cleaned by a Skunk Shrimp (Lysmata Amboinensis). If you look good you can see the pharyngeal jaw when the eel opens its mouth. This second set of jaws is used to help swallow prey.

I would probably way a good average for morays would be about 20yrs or so. 4-5 years is rather short. I know the giant moray (gymnothorax javanicus) lives for a LONG time. When my father was young, he would dive with this old man in this spot off the coast. The old man told him theres a big eel that lives there and not to hurt it or worry about it because it was there from when the old mans father was young. I dont know how true that is but from what i understand it was a very big eel.

This particular one my friend caught for me. I ended up giving him $200 for the trouble.

wow!! that is pretty impressive that is one beautiful specimen if i say so myself though do most of the eel's are they wild caught or do people actually make an effort of captive breeding them?..is the eel still doing okay? it would be sad if it were to pass away or be given to someone else such a beauty

Thanks man. Yeah doing fine still! At the moment, there hasnt been any record of captive breeding morays that im aware of. Lots of hurdles, not to mention rearing the larvae.
