More than 200 youngsters took part in The Whittle Cup recently with Blackbrook St Marys lifting the trophy. Boys and girls represented 15 primary schools from across St Helens in the annual Tag Rugby Tournament.

Blackbrook St Marys Catholic Primary School went on to win a highly competitive final against Billinge St Aidan's C of E Primary School to lift the 2009 Whittle Cup. Legh Vale also returned home with silverware after winning the Plate.

The Cup has grown to be a highlight of the junior Rugby League after its conception in 1996. The showpiece event is delivered through a partnership between St. Helens RLFC community team and St. Helens Council sports development team.
