This is a general overview of how I built my 14x14 solar cabin for under $2000.
For complete step-by-step directions, videos, and more project plans including how to install solar power, drill your own well, build a composting toilet and more please visit my website:

  • how do you keep the underside from collecting mold and small animals in the insulation? Love the videos. I am attempting to build my own here soon. You have inspired me.

  • @BlueDogDance

Seal the foundation with plastic and wood and there will not be any mold and critters.

  • @solarcabin How do you prevent termites. I live in Mississippi and I don't want a mortgage either. But if I'm gonna build something I want it to sand my whole life! It's warm and humid here and termites are everywhere!

  • @BushmasterXM15E2

The only way to prevent termites is to use a termetricide ground treatment or put it on a cement slab at least 18 inches off the ground.

  • Great video. Great things!

  • This is all a normal person really needs, and it is a damn sight more than most ppl have around the world. I'd be proud to live in a house like this. What would this cost to build? What around $3000? All of a sudden Everyone could afford a home. Damn inspirational!

  • wonderfull Video Sir, Thank you so very much for the inspiration to be free!!! Love your lifestyle choice, Stay Cool Sir!!

  • @SoftSailz

The ground is packed and the cabin sits 18" above ground level. A drain and slope prevents any settling.

  • @solarcabin what happens when the rain comes and the house settles into the ground on the blocks? this is a pretty cool vid
