cont. I would say that 90% of people can understand more than 80% of what she speaks now. Normally it is just older people who have more difficulty understanding her, or when she gets going too fast! As far as hearing, she loves to be a part of so many different groups and this is definitely challenging for her to hear everything, but we teach her to use everything she has to hear... we get interp's when needed, or I interpret for her. I hope you all can just share in her joy and success!

cont. The first video was taken just a few months after adoption. Yes, she was REALLY confused. But she was confused at ASL too. She was confused at everything! It has been 3 years now since her first CI... sometime I will post another video of her! She has so much confidence and runs around talking to people all the time. I know she is an exception at her age to do so well with the implant... we were prepared to do only ASL too if that was what was working best for her. more----->

I wanted to throw a little more information out there.... I had no idea these responses were going on here! We are a bit busy at home =-) I am Naomi's mother. I'm not here to argue or to make you agree with us. You need to understand that Naomi grew up in China, in an orphanage, where she received NO language training at all. At 6 years old, she had no ability to express anything other than pointing to her mouth if she wanted to eat. This played into our decision to get the CIs. more---->
