  • One of Americas' most compelling and compassionate thinkers and writers. Perhaps with the new administration his thoughtfulness and humanitarianism will now be taken into consideration in forming our policies, both domesticly and internationally.

  • they treat mountain people much the same way as they treat the mountains, we're called every insulting name under the sun.

  • @hindview

indeed it's become a national thing.

it hurts me to my soul some of the things that are said about my mountain people. my grandmothers and grandfathers reviled while rich drunk frat boys from connecticutt are held up as great examples for our children.

how did it get so turned on its' head?

  • I think that that history may judge this speech as one of the most important and eloquent environmental speeches ever made in this country. But it is a lot more more than an environmental speech. Almost like a sermon, but not religious, even to the echoing murmurs and cheers in the audience, very like a church service in that way. I like it.

Very powerful speech. Worth listening to not once but over and over, to get what he is saying. Wendell Berry is a great American and an inspiration.

  • @bi11meinphilly i wouldn't bet on it, unfortunately.

  • Thanks you Wendell Berry!!! I love hearing him speak, and love his books even more. The most challenging thing about his writing, is enacting what Wendell imagines. IT is hard, and entirely counter cultural

  • Good luck to the people of Kentucky. Keep up the good fight. You have a long, tough row to hoe.
