Original 3rd Armored Division photos and music during its time in West Germany from 1956 to 1992. The background music is of the 3rd Armored Band and Soldiers Chorus of 1958 with "The Army Goes Rolling Along" and the Division Band of 1983 with a rendition of "Grand Old Flag." The 3rd Armored served as NATO's primary "point guard" for the critical Fulda Gap area northeast of Frankfurt/M. These 38 photos show the realism in training for the defense of Western Europe. (The original Army photographers that can be identified from those five decades were Bud Lee, Michael Fredericks, Mack Thomas, Wolfgang Scherp, Roland Gautier, Steven Kuhn, Fred Blas, and Vic Damon. Video slide-show and soundtrack by Vic Damon of 3AD.com staff in 2008. Photo research support from Jim MacClay, Jim Chorazy, and John R. Marshall of 3AD.com staff.)
