@LWYT1 Colombia is dangerous as hell. I was in Cali just one block from the InterContinental Hotel at 1:00PM when my friend and I were robbed and damn near killed. The robber tried shooting my friend but my friend deflected his arm so the first two bullets went into the air, then the guy pointed the gun at me and fired two more shots but the bullets were duds. Not one single person tried to help us.

I am an Englishman and I have visited Colombia 4 times in the last 5 years. As with any destination unwary tourists can be the victims of crime, but the perception of Colombia as dangerous, is anachronistic. In the 1980’s narcotics and political terrorism were endemic, this is not the case today. In my experience Colombia is the most geographically, culturally and experientially diverse country in the world and the people are most warm and hospitable. I recommend visiting to everyone.
