@YERTians Did you work on this video? I just stumbled on this without knowing anything about the project. Did the crew need net access during the hour? When the video started I was looking forward to seeing the crew turn off all their own lights and was disappointed when they didn't while in the city. Anyway, best of luck going forward. BTW Candles should be taboo on Earth hour! Burning wax for light is about as inefficient as you can get. Checkout the wikipedia page on Luminous Efficacy.

How much does the US Gov't suck that they couldn't participate in DC for one hour?

I was not in my house for earth hour so I guess I participated indirectly. It was sad to see the Department of Energy literally burning the late night oil.

This would be an interesting insert into the feature film. Many of your other segments are very tight, and filled with information. This could serve as a nice little breather for the audience.

Good story. Good banter among talent in car & house, but should be used sparingly. Not all of the aside comments further the story. Cut down the segment - too long. Outtakes were a good idea.

I turned off my lights!!

I kept seeing the ice slide down the surface of those pillars of "forever" should have been there long after I was gone. So, when humor fails to amuse, what do we put in its place?
Thanks for making us not laugh.

Everybody wants everybody else to turn off the power. It would have been nice if the video makers had turned off their car, their laptop, etc in DC to mark the hour themselves. It's had to ask "why is the capitol building lit?" when you're burning 25 watts in a laptop to tell the time. I don't mean to be cynical but it's a drag when people have the attitude of "it's the thought that counts" instead of caring for practical results... even practical results on very small scales.

@icjefferys You've got a good point, and we spent a lot of time pondering how to reduce our footprint while still keeping the fundamental communication lines open with our audience. A few things we did-- reduce our garbage to 1 shoebox (including recycling) per month for all three. That's ~1/100 of average Americans. We also cut our water, and made all of our short films (60+) available for free to the world so they could share in our discoveries. And co-habitated for a whole year with hosts.

@icjefferys Overall, I think that if we all used almost all of our carbon footprint on activities specifically aimed at greatly reducing the carbon footprint of ourselves and others, we would be headed in the right direction-- but I'd love to know your thoughts about that premise as well. What do you think is the best way to communicate about ideas to increase the world's sustainability?
