How can 6 people dislike this video? Why click on a Deltic fire up video then dislike??

Nice!

Thanks. I only travelled once behind a Deltic. It seemed to run at a high RPM compared with Sulzers. To my untrained mind that implies higher piston speeds and thus higher wear and therefore more clag (though I see that point about engine size and warm-up time.) As a steam diehard I have to admit that the Deltics were an excellent investment amid many other poor or useless diesel designs. Most (all?) traffic needs could have been met with just Deltics, 08s, 24s 25s, 33s, 37s and 47s....?

deltics are quite well kept compared to other diesels there age

Well said!

Size may be a factor, the bigger an engine is the longer it takes to warm/ the more fuel is wasted / burnt less efficiently during start up.
They all have been known to clag!
-
It just depends on the engine; some clag terribly.
Bare in mind these 2 strokes r more efficient than loop scavenge types as the exhaust port end piston timing is slightly advanced so that exhaust port closes early with inlet still open, this way u can have higher inlet pressure without blasting most out of exhaust.
Exhaust opens earlier and shuts earlier than inlet.

Because of the design of the engines - triangular with far more pistons having something to do with it, I think

How come these old two-strokers clag less than four-strokers of about the same age?
Nice, but you missed half of the startup! :S
