On this edition of Wet Work, teen host Alex LeBlanc goes behind the scenes of the Natchitoches National Fish Hatchery. He learns how this facility helps protect endangered species, as well as how it works with state fish hatcheries to help raise commercial fish like channel catfish and largemouth bass- for stocking bodies of water in Louisiana. He learns the exact science and record keeping of a fish hatchery as he counts young fish and then pours them into a lake. While at the hatchery, he visits with a guest researcher who is working at the facility to help the endangered spotted gar in Canada and also visits an alligator snapping turtle lab, where he learns what researchers are doing with these young hatchlings in an attempt to help that species as they grow to gigantic sizes in the wild. Although you won't get as wet as Alex does, you will become immersed in discovering why fish hatcheries are so important to our state. It's wet and it's work, but Wet Work has never been so fun.
