Lorraine Larrabee's pond never looked better.

A lot of work has gone into making Whitmans Pond in Weymouth the relaxing spot it is today. Ask anybody who the life force was behind it, and they'll tell you it was Larabee, who lived at the end of Westminster Road overlooking the 204-acre pond for more than 30 years.
Dozens of relatives, friends and officials gathered at the pond Monday afternoon to tip their hats to the longtime president of the Whitmans Pond Association.
She organized annual cleanups, pushed for grant money and worked behind-the-scenes politics for her neighborhood for virtually her entire adult life.
Larrabee, known for a her bubbly personality and consistent honesty, died March 23 at 63 after battling cancer. She was 63.
