In this video I discuss some of the music equipment and software I use to write and record music. I will get into more depth in the "Writing/Recording a Song" videos but since I am about to complete a new song and post a video, I thought I should show you a bit on how I do it.

Discussed in this video:
- Roland JV-1010 sound module
- Tascam US-428
- Jammer Pro software
- Cubase VST software

  • Grizzly Adams, does your mom know you're using all that old equipment in her basement?

  • @carebayers haha, that's good. Yes this is old stuff. I admit it. No problem with me. I have newer stuff now but still not amazing.

  • Wow Jammer Professional I haven't seen that in forever. I have ver 3.0 from back in the 90,s I used to love that program . It was manufactured by SoundTrec out of Duluth GA. Cool

  • @ricktech44 Hehe I know! I loved it too a couple years ago. Great fun. Still use it from time to time. Yep Soundtrec, what a great software they made. Thanks buddy.

  • Hi, you mentioned about not using a computer with firewalls etc.

I have a Motu 428 mkII interface that I purchased recently and it really doesn't like windows7.

I got the win7 drivers from Motu website, loaded it all and it sees all the channels in Ableton, and appears to be about to work, then a short while afterwards it crashes the whole pc.

Is it because win7 is too anal about every program it sees or is it ableton that doesn't like the Motu? Any ideas?

  • @loombaron Got the Cubase I need, Wavelab, Waves plugs, spent some time with many of the software titles you mention as well as others. Computer is running perfect, totally clean, no extra software, no virus checker, not even wallpaper. Don't use a soundcard anyhow as I use either a USB or firewire interface, have a midi controller. Really don't need the advice but thanks, I guess, for feeling it necessary to give. Think I'm doing just fine with what I have.

  • its fine, anyway I recommend you check out the new stuff. Cubase 6.0, Ableton live 8, Propellerhead reason, Logic, and so many more. And if you have some money to spend get an imac or a updated PC, a new soundcard, a midi controller, etc. You will be able to do a lot more than with your actual equipment.

  • @loombaron A bunch of years ago. And yes, the stuff is old but works like a charm. I've kept that system lean and not updated much to avoid software and hardware issues and have been perfectly happy with it as is.

  • when did you make this video? Your PC, software and equipment looks.....old..XD

  • yea. virus checker firewall and internet not on the music pc :D

    that made my day :D:D
