  • Atheism = God(s) does/do not exist.

Agnosticism = There may be a God, there may not be a God... No one can be sure due to lack of proof.

Theism = God(s) exist(s). These are three very different stances. It don't make sense to start combining them. Saying you're a Agnostic Atheist is saying, "God does not exist... but He might..." That makes no sense.

  • @CryForSilence7 See man, that's what I thought at first too. But Agnosticism is when you "a denial of ultimate knowledge" of any standpoint on God (or other metaphysical stuff). Those sort of Epistemological viewpoint doesn't alter what you're actual beliefs are. I know wiki aint the best source, but I'd read what they have to say about it.

  • Both you and mrministryman seem to have a faulty understanding of atheism and agnosticism.

    To make it easy:

Atheism/Theism is about what you believe.

Agnosticism/Gnosticism is about what you know.

So saying that there may be a god but you don't know, but at the same time say you don't believe there is, is absolutely ok, you're an agnostic atheist.

Hope that made it clear for you. :)

  • @Zinom123

Damn, the dictionary did have a pretty good definition didn't it? Maybe I should look that stuff up before I make a video :P

Read the wikipedia page for agnoticism for like 5 minutes and I totally get what you mean. Damn, kinda ruins the whole point of the debate.

  • @Pauliday I agree completely. I also believe that one cannot call his emotions 'truth' and that although one might find that science is cold in that manner, we are still able to find happiness and be wrapped in awe by what the universe is really like. In that respect it is truly possible for anyone, no matter what they believe or disbelieve in, to find purpose. I never really understood the notion that the universe has to have a meaning though, other than human selfishness.

  • @Andytheantiathiest We need more respect in the world to solve solutions and not pick small differences to argue about. I have no beef with anyone. However, I find some religious types very annoying when they knock on my door attempting to convert me to give 10-20% of my income to be saved. That is especially true of Mormons and the Witnesses. Man, I hope Romney isn't the GOP candidate. Just what we need, a Mormon in the white house...

  • @SycoWolfe Religion and politics are very similar. Just as a Democrat will never convince a Republican a Christian will never convince a Muslim and an atheist will never convince a religious person. Why? Because these are all beliefs and not based on science or evidence. Hence, I avoid all these debates because I would rather spend my time reading text books or inventing. The goal should be how can we all work together to solve world problems not how can we change each other.

  • @cheeseUout While there are a number of angry atheists, I have found most of them are angry because religion is shoved or has been shoved down their throat constantly. In America, if you don't believe in Christianity, you are a lower class citizen. My statement is based on all the attacks on President Obama being a Muslim and the pressure all politicians are under to say "God Bless America." Such nonsense.

  • @Pauliday Do you understand logic? Real mathematical logic. Using formal logic, one can not prove or disprove God. However, the burden of proof is on the person positing the existence of God and not the disbeliever. See, if we had a testable theory around God, then one could criticize atheists from not being logical. However, no theory has been successfully posited to date. Belief in a higher power is faith and not logic or science.

  • @bourdeaux16 Personally, I went to Catholic grade school and to church every Sunday. I bought into everything because it made me feel good and it was the easy road. Why rock the boat? The light didn't shine on me until I picked up the bible about 10 years ago and started reading it. I could only get through the initial few pages before I concluded this is crazy nonsense. I would have to be tripping on acid to believe this stuff (no I don't take drugs). Now, I'm agnostic.

  • @TheGreatWhiteAnger I was raised Catholic, but never read the bible until a few years back. I picked it up and started reading from the start. After reading only a handful of pages, I concluded that this is crazy nonsense and everything that is taught in church is cherry picked and manipulated. Hence, I'm agnostic.

  • @Suptiche12 Most educated Christians end up as Agnostics but won't admit it because of fear, why not believe just in case... This is based on my experiences and is not scientific. However, if we could get people to really tell the truth, it would be a very interesting study. The reality is, nobody knows and the older I get, the more horrible events I witness, the less I believe. Saying it is God's will that a dad (in his 30s) of 3 who lived a healthy life and gets cancer doesn't cut it.

  • @luisrock2008 The burden of proof is on you. Just like the burden of proof for global warming is on scientists, the plant is round, E=MC^2, etc. When one posits a theory, the burden is on them to provide the evidence for the theory. I can tell you I am the second coming of Jesus. Is the burden on me to prove it? Or would you just have faith and believe me? If you don't question, you are a prime target to be a mark and be taken advantage of. Your choice.
