Safe Havens was a film made with a class of Year 5 pupils from Cromwell Road School, South Bank, Middlesbrough in 2004 which explored the themes of refuge, change of country, change of cultures, new arrivals etc, using the children's own words, thoughts and imagery. A writer, Dougy Pincott and a team of animators from Seed Animation worked in the class for a week and the children were encouraged to express themselves as creatively and enjoyably as possible. The film features an original soundtrack created by the school's after-school samba band and made use of a song written by a local refugee from Zimbabwe. Middlesbrough football player Joseph Desire Job kindly agreed to speak the introduction for the film. The project was co-ordinated by Tees Valley Arts.
