Every year, the New Year's Eve fireworks at Taiwan's landmark skyscraper Taipei 101 are among the world's most spectacular. This year, they were particularly lavish, as 2011 marks the 100th anniversary of the founding of the Republic of China. The "ROC" is the state that governs Taiwan since 1945.
Taiwan is an independent, democratic country and not a part of the People's Republic of China.

we were there with my friends to witness that expectacular event in 101...that was really great...but dis year we didn't make it...some r gone to homeland and went to other places... dis year fireworks was awesome...just watched it! Happy new year to all...

@MalaysiaThomas The ROC was founded in China in 1911, overthrowing the Chinese Empire. At that time, Taiwan was Japanese. In 1945, the ROC got control over Taiwan and in 1949, the ROC government had to retreat to Taiwan.
