Another sequence from Korngold's remarkable score for this forgotten film released in 1939. Beginning with the Austrian Imperial Hymn as Maximilan and Carlota arrive, the music quickly segues to Korngold's own and we then have an extended march (with colourful use of castanets and tambourines) as the ill fated couple make their slow procession by coach into the city of Mexico. Carlota finds a note in the carriage warning them to leave Mexico if they are "honourable people". Just listen to the extraordinary chain of dissonances from Korngold, as it dawns on the new Habsburg Emperor of Mexico that he may not be quite so welcome after all. One of Korngold's most remarkable scores that deserves a modern recording. From original acetates featuring the Warner Brothers Studio Orchestra conducted by Korngold himself, edited in the correct sequence.
