i have and sz6 and the same happened to mine.....its startes making a noisd and then it over heats, i could only use it when plugged into the main with out the battery in. Replaced the fan............quiet as ever!

has anyone talked with sony about this issue? I opened up the cover and poked around and couldn't do anything to stop the noise. It appears that the fan might be loose on it's chassy and moves around (vertically) therefore it strikes something that I cannot see about every 3 seconds causing the rattling noise.

Surprisingly it still works fine, but i want to sell it and the noise might deter potential buyers

I had the same problem with my SZ. It will get much worse over time. The fan needs to be replaced.

dude there is something wrong with your laptop i have a sony vaio sz 2 and its super quiet
