I think the swinging lightbulb was inspired by the opening credits to "Callan", a gritty downbeat spy series starring Edward Woodward, made in the UK a couple of years earlier.

Always thought this was the SNL version, but found the SNL Kate ep with Eric Idle last week. This is officially now my favourite version (but check out SNL version of The Man With The Child In His Eyes - definitely not lipsynched).
