Nope, this is from the Brave series, after Transformers G1 one sorta ended in Japan they decided to go with a new series to fill the public's transforming robots habit, they called it Brave or the Yuusha series. ran for like 8 years, each year they'd change to a new series with different characters, robots, and story, but with the same basic theme

This is from the first of those series, Exkaiser, the series does have a lot in common with Transformers though, even made by the same toy company, Takara.

You should totally check out Super Build Tiger and Pegasus saber, there's also knockoffs of them in the same line! though I dont think Pegasus Saber (dont you love these names!? >=D) has his combiner kibble, sadly. <=L

Transformers lasted for the first couple of years when Yuusha was being produced, but while Transformers was loosing popularity, Yuusha was gaining it. So Takara went with the winning direction.

Hahaha.....I've never seen this movie while a child. But I have that toys, and still good condition until now. :D
