The Arab League has approved sanctions against Syria to pressure the government to end its eight-month crackdown on pro-democracy protesters, effective immediately.
Syria described the move, announced on Sunday in Cairo, as a betrayal of Arab solidarity.
At a press conference in the Egyptian capital, Sheikh Hamad bin Jassim Al Thani, the Qatari foreign minister, said 19 of the bloc's 22 member nations approved the sanctions, including cutting off transactions with the Syrian central bank and halting Arab government funding for projects in Syria.

The Arab League leaders should walk away from their position and let some logical thinking responsible organization such as the AE-LOJ in Europe to handel and deal with the situation and all decision to be make in all Arab nations. Their cost will be very rasonable and with more than 90% possibilities of success as the garbage they are running now, costing the life of hundres of thousands of innocents people.. First of all to all of you, The Arab League is the worst and worthless organization ever founded on this planet. They are so worthless and corrupted that such a simple problem like Palestine, Iran, Syria, and Lybia, they most request the interventions of all western nations for every little thing in their own regions. they don't even have a Arab national security agency because they all corrupt, traitors and bacteria bloffers.
