A quick comparison of sound quality from three different microphones:
the built-in mic on my Canon Vixia HFS-100, a Røde VideoMic boom microphone, and a wireless lapel microphone — the Pro 88W/R from Audio Technica.
This video also serves as a tribute to my obsessive tidiness.
The hot shoe adapter for Canon camcorders I discuss is available here:

There is definitly a problem with that Rode Video Mic, it should not be getting all that "noise",, could possibly be a bad connection at the plug,,I use mine on A Canon Vixia HF20 and a Canon T3i and it is a very great sounding mic, so i think you may of gotten a defective mic.

This is not a fair comparison. The Rode Videomic has a lot of noise, that is not something I experience when using this microphone

There is alot of noise when you started to use the røde videoMic..I don't have that noise when I use this mic.

This helps. Thanks a lot!

My first rode videomic had the exact same problem (constant random noise that appeared to originate from within the mic's internal circuitry). I swapped it for another one, no probs now.
