I've finally gotten to see this commercial now. I'd heard references to Joe Namath & pantyhose in the TV shows of the mid-70's, like Good Times & The Odd Couple and didn't know what they were talking about.

I love this ad! Joe Namath was a doll! And he looked GREAT in those pantyhose! (Yes, he WAS wearing Beauty Mist pantyhose for the shoot! He said so himself!)

Glam Rock was big in the UK in the 70s around the time of this ad with Queen, David Bowie, and Elton John dressing up and making it big in the US not long after and even Lou Reed, Iggy Pop, New York Dolls, Alice Cooper and Kiss were glam-my in the US, so if there was ever an era for a straight guy to experiment with a pantyhose commercial, this would have been it.

Gotta hand it to Namath, it takes a certain amount of charisma, confidence and swagger to get away with wearing pantyhose and not giving a single shit about what people thought about it.
