I'm about to start building a Top Flite 1/7 scale P-51 D with the Cripes a Mighty 3rd color scheme. Part of the plan is to visit Fantasy of Flight over Thanksgiving and get some detail pics. I lived in MIami when Kermit had his museum there, before Andrew, and this was my favorite plane in the collection.
Schmued NEVER worked for Messerschmidt. Another misconception that's been circulating since WWII. Read O'leary's book "Building the P-51". Maybe you will learn something factual.
@Zeddy100 u only gotta look at ww1 the yanks were flying french an Brit built planes so its only proper and fitting that they use British commonwealth built planes in the European theatre in the second.

@Zeddy100 oh you are so wrong. it was designed by the americans, we just put one of the Roll Royce merlins it it which was designed by brits.
