Just get a Dyson instead. Tons of cleaning power that never diminishes, lifetime washable filters, much cheaper than a central vac system. It 's the best.

Get an MD.

It could be worse... Could be a ZOOM eureka, hoover windtunnel, or Nilfisk.
Beam went downhill when they got bought out by Electrolux --- Electrolux went downhill when they shipped manufacturing off to Mexico. They have absolutely horrendous defect rates these days --- no shock to me given the 'low bid' quality of internal components they use.
I'm an independent dealer and I refuse to support such corps.
And I hope all other dealers do the same. Support local manufacturers!

Install a bag adapter from Canavac with there bags no more mess and you maintain power. I install them all the time with no complaints. Best system out there.

There is a degree to how much "dirt cake" will form and excess will fail off in normal operation to the flexing action of turning the unit on and off.
The benefit of this type of filtration (depending on the material used) is that it does not require maintenance whereas systems without this type of filtration such as cyclonic requrie manual service which can be a dirty and upleasant job to the consumer.

The "dust cake" that you see on this filter is normal with certain types of filtration materials. For instance, some filters on the market are embedded with a non-stick surface (coated with the same material as Teflon) for a true non-stick surface. However, that being said, the "dust cake" shown on this video is actually increases filtration efficiency albeit at the loss of some airflow performance.

..keep "the" vacuum flow? it keeps "some" flow - nowhere near that of a brand-new filter. i've serviced dual motor 240 volt beam units that had a lot less airflow than a single-motor cyclonic system. a beam system is nothing more than a fancy, expensive dustbuster.

this shit it's a beam .

When I envision 'self cleaning filter', I imagine an elaborate system designed to vapourize dust out of physical existence. How dare this product make such unsubstantiated claims about being able to clease itself from dust! I can admit that when I saw the filter being sucked up into the inner chamber, I thought, maybe this it... maybe they've finally done it... the 'self cleaning filter'... I know I've never been so upset to see the truth.

You can ver easily update that to a MD SilentMaster or a Vacuflo. It will be a world of difference.
Duh! Its supposed to clean the dust that get collected on there while your vacuuming. Maybe do some research. Beams are truely the worst.
