Staff members from Montezuma National Wildlife Refuge and volunteers teamed up Tuesday July 7th to pull the invasive weed frogbit out of Tschache Pool before it can spread to the rest of the 9,000 acre wildlife refuge in Montezuma. They discovered the frogbit in September. Fogbit sends out runners called stolon forming additional clumps of leafs that cover the surface of the water. The cover makes it difficult for wildlife to get thru the water and when the plants die they decay and deplete oxygen levels in the water hurting the natural habitat. In this video, Montezuma Wildlife Refuge biologist Linda Ziemba explains why they're concerned about this species of plant.
