This animation shows how a CT scan was used to recreate the spines and plate structure of a 390 million year old fossil mollusk, a multiplacaphoran. The animation was created by Ryan Carney of Brown University based on research by Jakob Vinther, a postdoctoral fellow at the University of Texas at Austin's Jackson School of Gesociences. The CT scan information was then used to create a lifelife reconstruction of the specimen. A video hosted by National Geographic includes interviews with Vinther and the model maker Esben Horn discussing how they recreated the ancient creature.
